Awkward and unsure of herself, Abby is flustered when she meets Harvey Nicholas, a cadet from Clemson College. As summer begins, Abby finds herself constantly in the company of Harvey and falling quickly in love with him.
As rumors of war begin to reach the States, Abby begins to fear what may come for her older brother and Harvey.
Once Pearl Harbor is bombed, the boys are eager to protect their home and the women they love. But will Abby and Harvey’s love be able to withstand distance, rumors, loss, and hurt? Or will the war be what tears apart Abby’s heart?
War-Torn Heart is a kleenex-box book with a story of hope, of love, and of perseverance through World War II, which will make the reader cry, scream, and long for more.

And now on to Allison…
The journey of writing your debut
I began writing War-Torn Heart in 2005 after discovering a small little town a few miles away from Clemson University and being inspired to write the story of a small town girl falling in love with a Clemson cadet at the then-military college.
At the time, I was a reporter for a local newspaper, so I had a lot of research resources available to me. I learned that while always a small town, it had once been much more active than it currently was. Mix that with my degree from Clemson and a story idea was born. I knew I wanted the book to come from the perspective of two Christians who still have faults and make mistakes. I wrote the bulk of the story in 2005.
Then in 2006 I had my first child and all writing ceased. Add a second child only fourteen months younger and War-Torn Heart was nothing more than a blip that would come to mind every once in a while. Still, I felt God calling me to finish it one day. In 2010 I dusted the story off and decided to finish it. I think I finished it in 2011.
And I kept on going. I wrote the sequel after that. And then I wrote another. God intervened again, though, with the addition of another child. Such a blessing for life, but it once more put any sort of writing career on hold.
After the birth of my fourth (and final) child in 2015, I began freelance writing for a newspaper again. Then I began writing for a magazine in 2017. I interviewed a local children’s book author with whom I hit it off and I asked about her publisher. On a whim and a prayer, I submitted the manuscript for War-Torn Heart, sure it would be rejected like the 100+ other rejections I had gotten over the years.
Low and behold, they offered me a contract and I signed it in January 2018. War-Torn Heart is my first published book and I could not be more thrilled or more grateful to God for placing the ache to write in my heart.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Allison Wells is a new author, but for the most part she’s a Southern wife and mother.
